Discover Vienna

Steps to the Viennese Soul

The Art-Nouvean -style “Strudlhof Steps” built in 1910, an architectural gem of Vienna’s 9th district, became the topographical centre of the novel “The Strudelhof Steps” by Heimito von Doderer, one of the most significant Viennese post-war novels. On our walk we explore the artistic and intellectual Vienna from the glorious fin de siècle when intellectuals and free spirits from various origins seemed to gravitate towards Vienna.

We follow traces of Jewish life in Vienna, learn about one of the most prominent European aristocrate families, about pioneers of modern medicine and the beginnings of the first women’s movement. Of course, we encounter the world-renowned inventor of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud, who spent most of his life in this part of the city and who was duly appreciated in Vienna - only with a big delay.

we can still feel the K. and K. flair and we discover many faces of the presence.

Our tour will be ending in the "Servitenviertel", a part of the district, which is famous for its southern flair.
